Peer Mentor Program

The purpose of the RVU Peer Mentoring program is to assist the incoming class in having a successful transition to medical school by providing opportunities for networking and support resources during their first year. Peer Mentors are assigned to mentees in May and immediately begin to provide communication and support. The program also provides the selected peer mentors with the opportunity to grow as they practice their leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

Program goals include:

  • Provide the incoming class with a support group of 2nd year peers who can share from their own experiences in making the transition to medical school.
  • Assist the incoming class with acquiring personal, social, and academic skills which will help them to understand and adjust to the rigors of medical school
  • Provide mentors with opportunities for their own personal and professional growth as they help to provide a caring and supportive network for incoming students.
  • Provide another networking opportunity and de-stressor as mentors combine their groups for fun or informative activities.

Student Government Association (SGA)

The Student Government Association (SGA) is the official governing body for all students at 腦瞳憫. The SGA is composed of officers from the College of Osteopathic Medicine (voted into office by the entire student body), the sitting presidents of classes in their first and second year in the COM, the sitting president of the MSBS class. Responsibilities of the SGA include collecting and expressing student opinions, acting as a liaison between the student body and the administration, supporting organization and class activities, and working to improve the quality of life for all students at RVU.

Class Officers

Each class will elect a class President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Curriculum Representative, Wellness Officer and DEIB Officer during the first month (new students) or the preceding spring (returning students) of the academic year. The officers elected for the OMS III class shall serve as the officers for the class during the OMS III and OMS IV years and will be elected during last month of the OMS II academic year.

Honor Code Council

The Honor Code Council consists of an Honor Code President (part of SGA) and three Honor Code Representatives for the OMS I and OMS II Classes. This Council works closely with the Associate/Assistant Dean of Student Affairs in promoting awareness and compliance with the Code of Conduct.

Volunteering Opportunities

RVUs mission includes inspiring students to serve with compassion, integrity and excellence. This includes serving fellow classmates as well as the community. Being involved in the community provides students a sense of internal value and purpose. As students learn to engage in service to others, they develop emotional and spiritual wellness and stay connected with the reason why they wanted to be doctors in the first place.

There are many different volunteer opportunities within the RVU Community and the Community abroad. Task force and ad hoc committees as well as Associations, Clubs and Organizations (ACOs) provide a wide variety of volunteer leadership opportunities. Outside of the RVU Community, volunteer opportunities are limitless. As opportunities become available, they are posted on Microsoft 365 Colorado Campus TEAM for student reference.

Below are a few links of volunteer opportunities in the area:

Additionally, students volunteer at RVU-sponsored events throughout the year, such as:

  • High school sports physicals
  • Stock Show health events
  • UltraFest

Community

Service is one of RVU’s core values and our students are deeply passionate about it. Students volunteer at many events throughout the community, including sporting events, health fairs, with the disadvantaged, and much more.

Achieving New Heights in Medical Education

We are excited to announce that RVU Utah has been voted the best of Southern Utah in the College/University category for 2024!  We won the top spot with a gold medal! Thank you to all who voted!  At RVU we are committed to excellence in education, community engagement, and fostering future healthcare leaders.  This recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our students, faculty, and staff.  Heres to celebrating this award together and continuing to make a positive impact in our Southern Utah community!

Diversity & Inclusion Task Force

We are a student-led advisory and action committee that supports RVU Utah in delivering and expanding on its core value of Diversity on behalf of the student body. The group’s purpose is three-fold:

  • To provide opportunities for the RVU Utah student body to attain knowledge and skills relating to the diversity of all people, to encourage the practice of inclusive behaviors, both as citizens and as health care professionals.
  • To facilitate a perpetually more inclusive campus climate and student culture.
  • To assist RVU Utah in implementing policy and practices that support the inclusion and safety of all students during their time at this institution.

Get Fit Friday

The purpose of the Get Fit Friday series is to improve the physical wellness of the student body. The Series consists of planned activities including exercise classes, yoga, nutritional information, and intramural-type sports. Students who participate in the Get Fit Friday Series will gain skills that will translate into allowing them to identify patient needs and address lifestyle changes while reaping the personal benefits of exercise and nutrition.

This is a student led committee under the direction of the Director of Student Life & Special Events and provides a variety of leadership opportunities and experiences. Any medical student is eligible to be on the committee.

Student Sustainability Committee

The RVU Utah Sustainability Committee began in 2019 when a couple of like-minded students decided it was time to start a conversation. With climate change becoming a truer reality each day, they were determined to inspire change and encourage those around them to join the movement.

Our mission is to educate, engage and collaborate with the RVU Utah community and the community at large in an initiative striving towards a sustainable future.
